Campaign for a Cultural Center—Your New Self
An urban cultural center celebrates its decadal birthday—and it’s honored with an event series over several months. Out for pitching was the task to develop a visual theme for the anniversary that could be communicated to the public in a campaign. It should reflect the openness and diversity of the center and appeal to the citizens: People of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in cultural events, courses, concerts, and activities—from classical music to hip hop, from physics to philosophy, from quiet listening to hands-on crafting.
Below, you’ll find one of the approaches I’ve developed (having replaced the name and logo of the original institution with an alias). The motto: Visit our events and discover new sides to yourself. A day-time construction worker or project manager could get together with others in a musical jam or create a work of art here. The concept offers plenty of opportunities for “mixing together” personas and activities. It acts as an imaginative prompt for people who want to strike a chord within themselves by attending an event or exchanging with others.

The visual theme consists of pairs of images that each show an “everday self” and a new side of the person: a construction worker who becomes a cello player, or a senior citizen who rediscovers her inner child, etc. The effect is enhanced by fresh colors and fitting slogans. The campaign can be adapted for different media formats—always recognizable, playful, and interesting.
